Prevention and control measures, such as early screening of some cancers, can reduce deaths due to cancer by 50% or more.
At the request of Cancer Center Director, Dr. Dan Theodorescu, CancerCure and CU Cancer Center Fund established the CancerCure/AMC Cancer Fund Chair for Prevention and Control. In creating this Endowed Chair, the research work of an elite scientist will be funded, in perpetuity, using the investment income. CancerCure committed to giving $750,000 over a five-year period. As of February 2016, we have just $140,000 left to raise to reach our goal by July 1, 2017.
The CancerCure/AMC Cancer Fund Chair for Prevention and Control ensures the Cancer Center continues to recruit and train leading researchers and clinicians. More specifically, the Endowed Chair’s research will be based in behavioral and population science to help reduce cancer incidence, morbidity and mortality, as well as improve the quality of life for cancer patients.
While CancerCure members continue to fund the Endowed Chair through annual memberships and gifts, the Endowed Chair principal fund is earning interest that is available to support current prevention and control research at the CU Cancer Center.
